What penalties could I face for multiple DUI charges in Florida?
A prosecutor will come down hard on any drunk driving offense. When someone is charged as a repeat offender, the penalties can be life-changing, not least of all because of a prison sentence and license suspension. In short, your career and lasting reputation could be in jeopardy.
A 2nd DUI within five years can be felony or misdemeanor, punishable by:
- $1,000 to $2,000 in fines
- Up to nine months in jail (12 if aggravated)
- License revocation for 180 days, up to one year
- Ignition Interlock Device (IID) installation for two years
A 3rd DUI within 10 years is a third degree felony punishable by:
- $2,000 to $5,000 in fines
- Up to 1 year's incarceration (30 days up to five year's incarceration if charged with a felony instead of a misdemeanor)
- License suspension for 180 days up to one year (ten years minimum if charged with a felony instead of a misdemeanor)
- IID installation for two years.
For a fourth DUI charge, you could face similar penalties, and any DUI charges subsequent to this could mean that your license gets permanently revoked. Note that all these penalties do not involve charges of a DUI accident, a hit and run, or vehicular manslaughter. It is no exaggeration to say that a conviction on any of these charges could ruin your life.
There is a solution, however. The right DUI lawyer can make all the difference. From reducing charges to winning a not guilty verdict, there could be a range of defense strategies available in your case. You want a law firm that takes charge of the entire legal situation, looking deeply into the details of the case to determine the best tactics for your individual situation. From saving your license in the DHSMV hearing to obtaining a hardship license, from getting a plea bargain to a case dismissal, our legal team may be able to fight for you.
